ATTRIBUTED TO LUIGI ROBERTO (Italian, 1845-1910) PORTRAIT OF THE SCHOONER “ARICEEN”. Unsigned gouache ship portrait shows the three-mast white hulled schooner sailing left to right in choppy seas. Partial sails are up with four men on deck. The ship name is emblazoned on the bow. Title at bottom in ocean “Ariceen-John Churchill Master”. Housed in a good silver gilt modern frame with tan linen matte. The Ariceen was launched in 1917 and built in Liverpool, Nova Scotia by William K. McKean. SIZE: Sight: 15-1/2″ x 21″. PROVENANCE: De-accessioned from the Halifax Maritime Museum. CONDITION: Very good. 9-20561 (1,000-2,000)
