TWO NICE CDVS OF GENERAL NELSON MILES. Two very nice CDVs of the very young and dashing Civil War General Miles in a Riker Mount, accompanied by a trimmed Polaroid photo of a painting of Miles in later life. Miles volunteered as a private at the outbreak of the Civil War and by war’s end was a Major General and Medal of Honor recipient. One CDV has a photo of Miles surrounded by a printed oval border. The photographer and printer are not identified. CONDITION: Very good – corners trimmed slightly. The other CDV has a vignetted 3-1/2” x 2-1/4” photo glued to a card containing the back print “F. L. Lay’s – Photographic Atelier, 31 Winter St. Boston” and a 3-cent Internal Revenue Proprietary stamp. A nice penciled notation reads “Gen. Nelson Miles – succeeded Barlow at Antietam. Wounded: Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Petersburg. Medal of Honor.” CONDITION: Very good. 4-50108 SO21 (200-500)
