FRAMED CABINET CARD PHOTOGRAPH OF LAME BEAR. 6-3/8” x 4-1/8” cabinet card photo of Chief Lame Bear of the Cheyenne and so inscribed on the back. Lame Bear is dressed in a U.S. officer’s coat and a scarf and is wearing beaded moccasins and holding a peace pipe. Lame Bear was a peaceable Cheyenne leader, as was Black Kettle, and his death at the hands of the U.S. Army inflamed the Cheyenne Dog Soldiers, whose acts of revenge prompted further attacks and atrocities by the Army, including the Sand Creek Massacre. This great photo was made by E. B. Snell’s Elite Gallery, Wellington KS (imprinted on lower border). CONDITION: Very good to excellent – very slight discoloration, small scattered spots, beveled gold edges still bright, little wear to corners. 4-50121 SO17 (600-800)
