FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH OF FAMED SIOUX CHIEF RAIN IN THE FACE. Nicely framed and matted photograph (10-1/2” x 8-1/2”) of Rain in the Face (Itonagaju), a famous Hunkpapa Sioux chief. He was a fierce fighter and took part in the most famous battles of the Indian wars, including the Fetterman Massacre at Fort Kearny and the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Although nobody knows for certain who killed General Custer, many people including Custer’s widow believed that Rain in the Face killed him. There were also rumors that he cut out the heart of General Custer’s brother Tom on that battlefield, because Tom had previously captured and imprisoned him at Fort Abraham Lincoln. Rain in the Face denied doing this in an interview with Charles Eastman shortly before his death. CONDITION: Frame has a few scuffs – otherwise excellent. 8-87209 SO24 (800-1,200)
