PAIR OF EARLY QUILL WORK LEGGINGS. Fine brain tan deer skin leggings, possibly Assinboine. Cotton thread sewn, 29-1/2” l x 8” at the cuff and 13” at the top. The bottom 10-1/4” have patterns of quill work in geometric patterns of red, yellow, white and purple. These are from the period 1880-1930 with chemical dye on the quills. The entire back edges are buck-stitched laced and have 8” long fringe. One side has a repaired cut and a patch with other minor repairs. CONDITION: As noted, regarding repairs. Quill work retains 85-90% with some losses due to bug damage. A fine early pair of leggings. 4-47047 JR533 (1,500-3,000)
