L. M. SAMPSON (American, 19th Century) VILLAGE IN NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND. Oil on canvas panoramic landscape shows a divided large river with small village in foreground. Village depicts various houses and barns with fenced pastures and train station. Railroad tracks has siding with building and train station has long platform and water tower. Across river other houses, fields and hills are seen. Signed lower left “L. M. Sampson”. This comes from a local central Maine home where family history indicates it possibly could be a village along the St. John River in Northern Maine. Housed in a modern decorative frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 19″ x 45″. CONDITION: Some minor touch-up, craquelure, stretcher lines. Otherwise good. 9-98359 (800-1,200)
