WILLIAM EDWARD NORTON (American/United Kingdom, 1843-1916) SAILING OFF THATCHER’S ISLAND, GLOUCESTER, MASS. Outstanding oil on canvas nautical scene shows a large two-mast ship sailing toward viewer with sails full. A small schooner is shown beside with the twin lighthouses of Thatcher’s Island in the background. Two ships can be seen on the horizon. All under a beautifully executed colorful sky with light blues & pinks. The sun shines off the white sails of the oncoming ship. Signed lower left “W E Norton 76″. Housed in a fine replacement gilt frame with artist plaque. The finest Norton we have had the pleasure to offer. SIZE: 16″ x 24”.
