ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR BY JAMES MONTGOMERY FLAGG. This watercolor fully signed by Flagg in the lower right was the original artwork for a proposed poster for the Korean War. Flagg himself poses in an Uncle Sam outfit in the center of the illustration, while an infantry and airforce men to the left and right with a banner at the bottom reading “ I Need You Now!”. Bright original colors and framed in a three- layered red, white and blue mat. Flagg was one of America’s foremost illustrators from the period of the First World War and up and through the Second World War. His famed WWI poster with a fierce and determined Uncle Sam pointing directly at the viewer, with the caption above “ I want you for the U.S Army” is probably one of the most famous and popular recruiting posters ever. Flagg not only created a number of illustrations for WWI, but also for WWII and obviously into the Korean War. SIZE: Overall 30” x 28” including frame. Image size approx. 25-1/4” x 23-1/2”. CONDITION: This may not have been totally completed or may have been a study. Some minor spotting, but otherwise generally good. 4-50187 (6,500 – 8,500).
