LARGE EICHNER CLOCKWORK GERMAN CARRIAGE. A fine German carriage of the latter 19th Century contained within its original wood shipping box. A pair of finely detailed horses made of hollow tin with an elaborate mechanism simulating movement of their legs, pulling an elaborately detailed landau. An intriguing mechanism located under the driver’s seat with a series of cams gives a most realistic appearance of the horses walking down the cobblestone streets of Europe. The enclosed landau with glass paneled window and two doors would have contained two passengers, quite possibly made of Paper Mache or composition (missing). Decorated in royal blue with gold highlights with the Kaiser’s crown on both doors and paper simulated rugs on the floor of the carriage and footboard. Small lanterns on either side of driver’s seat are intact, but quite possibly replacements. SIZE: 25″ l. CONDITION: Some of the leather bridle trappings appear to be replacements. Upon blacklight inspection, there also appears to be some in-painting to landau itself, but overall a most dramatic and very nice toy. 1-6093 JL (10,000-12,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2006 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
