SECTION OF CAMOUFLAGE WING FABRIC REMOVED FROM A WWI GERMAN HALBERSTADT CL-IV AIRCRAFT. An approximately 26” x 48” section of light canvas wing fabric, painted in a splintered lozenge pattern in various shades of green, violet and blue with a top coating of clear lacquer. The panel contains a single double-stitched seam and a stripe of reinforcement tape integral in its original application. Stenciled “5-1/2 degrees” appears in one corner which denotes the angle of incidence indicating it was removed from the upper wing of the CL-IV. The fabric was removed from the aircraft by the Virginia Aviation & Machine, L.C. during the process of the restoration of the aircraft which is now on display at the United States Air Force Museum. CONDITION: The original doped finish on the fabric has become discolored from age muting the colors of the camouflage. The fabric has also become wrinkled and would benefit from professional mounting. 4-49349 CW5 (1,000-2,000)
