SIR OSWALD BIRLEY (British, 1880-1952) PORTRAIT OF PAULINE WOOLWORTH. Large oil on canvas portrait of an elegant woman seated in a French cane-back armchair. Her silver hair compliments her silver dress and sheer black shawl. She wears a diamond necklace with pearl drop and large sapphire and diamond ring. Signed upper left “Oswald Birley 1952″. Housed in a good antique gesso decorated fancy frame with some finish losses. Pauline Woolworth was married to Norman B. Woolworth and Pamela Woolworth was their daughter. SIZE: 40″ x 30”.
