SIGNED (French, 19th Century) BIRDSEYE VIEW OF FRENCH VILLAGE. Large watercolor shows oval painting of a hilltop village with red roof buildings and church with arrow weathervane. At top of hill appears to be a large rendering of the ruins of a classical structure which seems out of place. There are roads leading into the village and out. Well cultivated fields surround the hill. Signed lower right and inscribed “Allegre, le 1st Juin 1877” with a signature which is indecipherable. Housed in its original gilt molded wood frame. SIGHT SIZE: 27-1/2” x 49-1/2”. CONDITION: Generally good. Some stains and foxing but restorable. 9-94890 (800-1,200)
