GEORGE BERNARD O’NEILL (BRITISH, 1828-1917) OUTSIDE THE BARBER SHOP. Oil on canvas scene shows three men seated on a bench with dog, child and man looking on. The child has picked some wheat and one of the gentleman evaluates its quality. A woman on the side under a tree nurses a baby while another feeds chickens on the other side of an alcove which looks out onto a landscape. The barber shop can be seen with the slanted barber pole and barber with client inside. Signed lower left “G.B. O’Neill, 1858″. Housed in its original gilt frame liner. SIZE: 20″ x 24”. PROVENANCE: Woolworth Collection (F.W. Woolworth Dept. Store). CONDITION: Consolidated varnish surface layer, scrape through right man’s head, several small punctures.
