TWO AMERICAN BOW-BACK WINDSOR ARMCHAIRS. Circa 1800 and 1860. A Philadelphia Windsor armchair together with a Victorian example. The first with molded bowed crest rail continuing to applied mahogany arms with rolled grips on incurved supports, centering nine simulated bamboo spindles joined to a molded shield shaped seat raised on raked simulated bamboo legs joined by a swelled H stretcher. The second later example with high balloon back continuing to applied arms centering a round plank seat, the back with eight spindles raised on turned legs joined by a double box stretcher. SIZE: First: 36-1/2″ h. of back x 17-1/2″ h. of seat. Second: 40-1/2″ h. of back x 16″ h. of seat. CONDITION: Both have been stripped and refinished at some point, steam bent crest rail on tallest chair has some filler on the right shoulder facing and a repaired split in seat. Otherwise normal gluing and tightening has taken place. No evidence of any breaks or replacement parts. 9-91365 (400-600)
