Additional Provenance: The following information was provided by the consignor whose father acquired the two Audubon prints from the Ward Bros. Harry Chesley (1909-1991). Harry married Dorothy Todd in 1937. Dorothy was teh daughter of Captain Ira Todd of Crisfield, Maryland. Through the Todd’s, Mr. Chesley met and became friends with Lem and Steve Ward. Harry Chesley, Jr. was a sales manager for Swift & Company and national sales manager for Pabst Brewing Company. During WWII he was lieutenant colonel and executive vice president of marketing and advertising at the Phillip Morris, Co.

The scene shows two male and two female Mallard ducks in a marshy area. 2) Bien Edition; No. 15-1, Plate 395. Below image on bottom left “Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S. F.L.S.”. Title at center below image and no writing on bottom right where normally the Bien Edition is noted. The scene shows two male and one female canvas-backed ducks at shoreline edge with a view of the City of Baltimore in the background. Housed in an oak wood frame with matte. Along with a signed copy of “Pioneer Decoy Carvers” by Berkley. SIZE: 1) Total with margins: 26-1/2″ h x 39-1/2″ w. Image: 23-1/2″ x 36-1/2″. 2) Total with margin: 26″ x 38-14″. Image: 23-1/2″ x 36″. PROVENANCE: According to our consignor, these originally were in the collection of Ward Bros., famous decoy carvers from Crisfield, MD. CONDITION: 1) Laid down on light cardboard, all over tone, some insect damage with small holes, margin with losses and tears, in need of restoration. 2) The print has been glued to light board, all over toning, water stains and foxing lines, tear at center, losses and tears to margin.
