WHIMSICAL SILVER FLASK ATTRIBUTED TO WILBER F. PARKER. Mr. Parker, of the famous Parker family, apparently presented this flask to H.W. Witmer. It is dated 1870 and measures 7-3/8″ tall x approx. 3″ wide x approx. 1-1/2″ thick. It splits in the middle and it discloses the screw top for the flask with the removed top becoming a drinking cup. Both sides of the exterior are beautifully engraved with whimsical scenes of drinking and drunken hunters on one side with a monkey riding a deer and smoking a pipe, engraved on the top. On the other side, the top half is inscribed “From / WILBER F. PARKER” surmounting a scene of a running rabbit, two quail and a bird dog on latrine point. The bottom half of this side has a serious scene of duck hunters and a dog surmounting the Old English script “H.W. WITMER.” All the edges are nicely border engraved. CONDITION: Very good. Shows moderate handling and use with some oxidation to the silver and a dent on one side. 4-44436 JL21 (1,000-2,000)
