The bbl band has been cold blued, the receiver has flaked to about 70% thin blue under a coating of dried oil and has the appearance of a stainless steel receiver. SN 498707 CONDITION: 50% orig. blue on bbl and magazine tube, traces elsewhere, all with signs of touchup. There is considerable scratching on the frame. Some of the screw heads are badly rounded. This is a 2nd Model with the enclosed bolt. SN 45403 CONDITION: Good, plus. The bbl and magazine tube retain a medium brown patina with scattered light surface rust, vice mark patterns on the side flats and impressed cloth patterns on the left side of the bbl and upper end of the magazine tube. The receiver retains traced of silvered case colors but mostly is a light brown patina. Wood is sound with numerous small handling and use nicks and scratches retaining about 90% orig. varnish. W.M. WINGERT HEAVY HALF-STOCK PERCUSSION TARGET RIFLE. CAL. about 58. Massive heavy target rifle with 35-1/2″ oct. bbl, 1-1/4″ across the flats at the muzzle. The front sight has an iron dovetail with small brass blade and an orig. adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight. The top flat behind the rear sight is marked “WM. WINGERT/DETROIT”. Lock plate is marked “A.W.SPEIS/WARRANTED”. Lock plate, hammer, upper tang and trigger guard are nicely engraved with various patterns. The stock is iron mounted with a pewter nose cap and German silver escutcheons around the wedge. Bottom of the bbl has an iron ramrod rail with two iron guides and an iron nose pipe. The stock is of nicely figured walnut with raised teardrop side panels, a small shield thumb plate and has small cheek pieces on both sides of the butt. The left cheek piece has a German silver bird dog on point and the right side has a spreadwinged American eagle. The buttplate and toe plate are also of iron and lightly engraved. CONDITION: Good to fine. The bbl retains a medium to dark patina. Wood is sound, missing slivers and chips from both sides of the bbl channel, has grain checks in the butt and behind the lock plate. Our pistol is the “SWITCH HITTER MODEL” complete in it’s orig. box with both 38 & 22 bbls and the very rare orig. stripper clip. Accompanied by a period black flap holster with button closure and a small flat sided European cows horn powder horn that is 8-1/4″ on the outside edge x 3-1/4″ across the base x 1″ thick. The spout is a carved ducks head with ebony eyes. The sides are beautifully scrimshawed with riders on horseback wearing skirts with long hair and tri-corn hats firing flintlock pistols at each other. The inside edge is scrimshawed “ANNO” and the back edge scrimshawed “MDCCLIIII”. The base plug is dark horn secured with wooden pegs and brass pins. CIVIL WAR ERA TEXAS HOPE SADDLE. Great early saddle of the type used by the Confederacy during the Civil War, particularly Texas Cavalry units. Our saddle is unmarked with about a 12″ seat; long front slick fork with large leather covered horn. The upper skirts are short and rounded with four sets of dbl. leather rosettes on each side with pigging strings. The inside skirts are square with old sheepskin lining. It is fitted with 8″ wide leather fenders and wide bent oak stirrups. The cinch band is very early braided horsehide with period leather fittings and iron buckles. CONDITION: Good to very good. The leather is sound and useable but in need of treatment. The seam down the center of the seat is open and the jockeys have been tacked into place. The fenders and stirrups are replacements and the rear skirt seam is laced with a shoelace. The sheepskin lining is good but dry. The pigging strings are replacements. EARLY DROVERS BUFFALO COAT AND GAUNTLETS. Fine early, commercially made buffalo robe drovers coat with rolled collar. It appears to be medium to large size with very dark, curly shoulder hair and sleeves of a more straight hair. The buttons and front closures are pairs of wooden pegs with braided cord loops. The lining is quilted cotton, sewn with red and white thread with soft leather armpit reinforcement. Accompanied by a pair of period buffalo hide hair-on gauntlets of medium to large size, wool lined in the hand and corduroy lined in the cuff. CONDITION: The coat is good with a large area of lost hair on the left front skirt area. The cuffs show light to moderate wear with a small repair on the left side. The gauntlets are much used but intact, with slight loss of hair on the back of the fingers and on the edges of the cuffs. All together a wonderful 18th Century drovers winter outfit. Nice early wool Navajo rug 7′-11″ by 3′-9″ of primarily red and blue colors in 3″ bands across the rug with grays-purple mixed and pale green in wavy patterns with white and brown bands at each end. One end is bound off without fringe while the other end has worn braided fringe that was orig. 5″-6″ long. The sides are bound with black natural hair stitching. CONDITION: Fine with the primary colors bright and vivid, while the greens and purples have faded slightly. The tasseled end is worn with some loose stitching. There is a small piece of very old, very dry wood trapped in the jaws, apparently a piece of the wood used to trip the trap the last time. Accompanied by three short pieces of chain with hand forged wedges on each end and an old hand colored photograph of an old time bear hunter with a huge dead Black bear titled “KILLED BY ART JACKSON-DEAD STREAM SWAMP HOUGHTON LAKE MICH.” The consignor states that Mr. Jackson was the owner of this trap.
