*FRANCOTTE HIGH GRADE SIDE PLATE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. CAL. 12ga. Beautifully engraved dbl. with 30″ bbls choked FULL/MOD, dbl ivory beads on a tapered matted rib, marked on the bbls “Von Lengerke & Detmold US Agents New York”. Receiver is fitted with sideplates and all are engraved with very fine arabesque patterns and game scenes having quail and pheasant on the left, ducks and woodcock on the right with a large gold spread-winged American eagle and shield on the floorplate. Trigger guard is inlaid with gold initials “CGW” and a gold S at the safety on the top tang. The fences, with side clips, are relief engraved with arabesque and leaf patterns. The bbls have double lumps with a dolls head extension. This beautiful shotgun has dbl. triggers and ejectors. The wood is highly figured French walnut with a splinter forearm and semi-pistol grip stock, 14-5/8″ over a solid rubber pad and a 1/2″ wood extension. Accompanied by its orig. oak and leather trunk case with the importers label in the lid containing a portable wiping kit and Abercrombie & Fitch snap caps. SN 81476 CONDITION: Good to very good. This beautiful shotgun was in virtually new condition before it was allowed to deteriorate. The bbls retain 60-70% bright orig. blue with heavy crusted rust that will leave pitting when cleaned. The receiver and sideplates retain about 90% orig. case colors and the wood most of its orig. varnish with some mildew in the finish. Bores are bright and shiny and in need of a good cleaning. The case is badly deteriorated and the lining is badly bug eaten with the leather dry and crackled missing some leather on the bottom. 4-45443 JL168 (900-1,200)
