WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 SADDLE RING CARBINE. CAL: 45-75. Standard 2nd model carbine with long wood forearm, 22” barrel, with single barrel band and nose cap, uncheckered wood with straight stock and carbine metal buttplate. The left side of receiver is fitted with a sling stud and ring. The barrel has a pinched military style front sight and a reverse mounted “1876” marked ladder carbine sight. The barrel and receiver have tiny British proof marks. SN 24169. A statistical data report from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center addressed to Dr. Robert L. Moore indicates this was shipped from the warehouse July 31, 1882 with 19 other carbines. Prov. ex – Dr. Robert L. Moore. CONDITION: Excellent, the barrel retains 94-96% strong bright orig. blue with a cleaned area and moderate to deep pitting in a spot about midway between the barrel band and front sight. The foreend cap retains about 90% blue, the receiver and sideplates retain 94-96% strong, bright orig. blue with some scattered chemical spotting on the left side. The lever and hammer retain generous amounts of dark case colors turning silver. The wood is sound and retains most of its orig. bright finish, with scattered light surface nicks and dings and a couple of small gouges on the buttstock.
