WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. CAL: 45-75. Standard grade rifle with 28” round barrel, full magazine, uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent buttplate with sliding trap. The barrel is fitted with half nickel front sight and “1876” marked ladder barrel sight. The receiver, foreend cap, lever, hammer and buttplate are case colored. SN 37906. A letter from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center dated May 14, 1979 to Dr. L. Moore indicates that the gun was shipped from the warehouse in March 1, 1884 as a rifle, round bbl. plain trigger, cased hardened with graduated peep sight. Prov. Ex – Dr. R. L. Moore, Jr. Collection. CONDITION: Excellent- plus nearly 100 %, retaining about all its orig. blue to the barrel and magazine tube, with what appear to be three or four marks over the left side chamber area, a couple of tiny nicks at the muzzle edges and one or two other small storage and handling marks. The case colored receiver and sideplates retain about 97-98% brilliant case colors, slightly dulled around the front edge and top tang, with most of its orig. shellac over-finish. The lever retains about 90% case colors, turning gray around the loop. The hammer and buttplate retain most of their orig. colors. The wood is sound and retains 96-98% of its orig. varnish with scattered light surface dings and a couple of small bruises. Brilliant shiny bore. 4-45305 (17,500-27,500)
