SCARCE WERNDEL HEAVY SCHUTZEN RIFLE BY A. TOMANN. CAL. 8.15X46R. Unusual target rifle with 30-13/16″ oct. bbl with windage protected front sight and large disk Vernier rear sight. Mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with schnable tip forearm, massive schutzen cheek piece with short horn schutzen buttplate. The trigger guard has a finger rest/pistol grip and has double set triggers. The action is most unusual with a rotating breech block similar to a Snider action that when fully depressed in the open position causes the extractor to function. After loading and being rotated closed, it is fired by means of a right side mounted hammer that must be manually cocked. The bbl has an 8-3/4″ mid-range sight rail integral with the top flat and is marked with the maker’s name. CONDITION: Good to very good. The bbl retains about 95% strong orig. blue. The receiver and lock plate are mostly a gray-brown patina with faded case colors on the hammer and lock plate. The stock has a couple of small cracks underneath the action and a grain check in the butt. The forearm has a repaired crack by the left bbl channel, otherwise retains a fine hand-rubbed patina. Excellent bright shiny bore. 4-45460 JL289 (1,000-1,500)
