SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER HIGH WALL SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. CAL: 38 Express. Thick side action, 33-7/8” oct. bbl. The factory letter shows that this rifle was shipped February 9, 1889 with set trigger, Swiss buttplate and No. 4, 34” bbl. The current sights, a windage adjust Lyman tang, folding rear and globe front were added at a later date. The rifle was returned to the factory at some point and while there is no information on the work done, it was probably refinished at that time. The bbl marking has been re-rolled with vestiges of orig. marking remaining. Winchester proof mark was stamped on top of the receiver but not on the bbl. Comes with a set of RCBS loading dyes. SN 16459 CONDITION: Retains most of the orig. finish with slightly fading case hardening colors on the sides of the receiver and darker top and bottom. Wood is smooth with little sign of use.
