HISTORIC CENTENNIAL PERIOD 38-STAR AMERICAN FLAG. A beautiful 1876 period large American flag measuring 12′ X 6 1/2′ with a circular pattern of 38 stars. The flag is manufactured of fine wool bunting with thirteen wide stripes of alternating red and white and a dark blue canton with 38 hand-applied cotton 5-point stars arranged in two concentric circles with a star in each corner and one in the center. The haft side is bordered with a heavy unbleached canvas border with an insert of double heavy twisted rope and metal grommets. The canvas is stenciled: “NO. 8-1/2″ 12 X 6-1/2″ The size is bold, the colors wonderful, and the arrangement of stars patriotic. Just a beautiful opportunity to own a true piece of 1876 Americana when Colorado became a state in the Centennial of our Nation. Provenance: This flag belonged to William Edmond Price Sr. of Baltimore, Maryland. CONDITION: Generally good. I doubt that this flag flew more than several hours in its life! The colors are very strong with no damage, just a spot or two of discoloration from storage. 4-44780 CW (1,500-2,500)
