COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY ARTILLERY REVOLVER. CAL. 45 Colt. Usual configuration with 5-1/2″ bbl, mixed numbers with bullseye ejector rod head, un-numbered bbl with 2nd type ejector rod housing. The frame is numbered “92930” with “DFC” inspector mark, trigger guard is numbered “4268” with Ainesworth inspector mark, back strap is numbered “7238” with Ainesworth inspector mark, cylinder is numbered “41828” with “DFC” inspector mark and the bbl is un-numbered. Grips are orig. type 1-pc walnut without cartouche or inspector marks and there is a small “H” in the hammer recess. The frame has 3-line patent numbers and a small US on the left side. Accompanied by a US marked black artillery flap holster with 2-hole flap, marked on the back “LANZ OWEN & CO. /CHICAGO”; an 1870’s pattern belt with keeper and brass buckle with US in an oval and an L shaped screwdriver, three full boxes of Frankford Arsenal 12 packs of tinned revolver cartridges marked on the lids “AUGUST 29, 1892” and head stamped “F/8/92” and four additional rounds and a fired lead bullet. Consignor states that his father purchased this artillery from Bannerman’s prior to W.W.II and to his knowledge, only one round was ever fired through it and they recovered the bullet which is included. CONDITION: Bbl and cylinder retain about 90% orig. blue as refinished during alteration with scattered light surface spotting. Frame retains about 95% strong case colors starting to fade, as refinished during alteration. Trigger guard and back strap retain 75-80% thin blue. Grips are sound with a bruise on the left side and small handling and use marks retaining about 90% orig. varnish. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny. Holster is strong with most of its orig. finish, slightly dull and the belt is supple with a crackled finish and the brass a medium mustard patina. Cartridge boxes are all open, missing their end flaps from the lids, ammunition is bright and clean. 4-44789 JL318 (8,000-10,000)
