INSCRIBED CIVIL WAR METROPOLITAIN PERCUSSION REVOLVER. CAL. 36. Usual configuration with 6-3/8″ round bbl, 5-shot fluted cylinder, brass grip frame and 1-pc walnut grips. Back strap is inscribed in period engraving “LIEUT. WAYNE VOGDES/100.REG’T N.Y. VOL.”. This revolver is accompanied by copies of Vogdes’ Civil War record indicating service from August 1863 – August 1865 as a 2nd Lieut. and later a 1st Lieut. After the war, he apparently was breveted Major in the New York National Guard. The records indicate Vogdes was wounded May 14th, 1864 at Drury’s Bluff, Virginia. Vogdes apparently served through several campaigns with no mention of distinction. SN 3071 CONDITION: About good. No orig. finish remains with the iron being a gray-brown patina with scattered rust and light pitting. Barrel assembly is mismatched from the frame being SN 3099. Grip frame is a cleaned light mustard patina and the grips are fine retaining most of a refinish. The hand or hand spring is broken. 4-45265 Z165 (2,500-3,000)
