VERY EARLY ELABORATELY CARVED POWDER HORN. Small cows horn powder horn about 9″ on the long edge x 2-5/8″ x 1″. Carved on one side with an early warrior wearing greaves, a short Roman type skirt with shoulder and upper arm armor and a plumed helmet holding a flag and shield with other small decorations in the background. The other side is carved with a mythical figure, possibly Poseidon, of a man and horse. The man is holding a trident with a sea creatures tail in the background. The spout is a carved fishes head that is identical from either side. The base plug is also horn. CONDITION: Fine with a medium green color with fine aged patina. 4-45476 JL313 (500-1,000)
