WILSON CONVERSION NORTHWEST TRADE GUN CHIEFS’ MUSKET. ca. 1760 CAL. about 68. Converted from flintlock with a 36-1/2″ oct. to round bbl. Full-length wood stock with teardrop side panels, raised carved teardrop around the top tang. A fine scaled serpent sideplate with three screws. The breech end of the bbl has two deep oval touch marks and the initials “NW” with a star. The lock is marked with the makers’ name vertically behind the hammer. It has two decorative brass ramrod guides, a large plain iron trigger guard and plain brass buttplate. A similar example appears in “The Northwest Gun” by Charles Henson. CONDITION: The iron has an even deep brown patina with heavy pitting around the nipple area and hammer. The front trigger guard screw is a replacement. The wood is sound with two carved grooves on the forestock and retains a fine hand-rubbed patina. 4-45353 JL270 (2,500-4,000)
