EARLY ENGLISH IRON BARRELED FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS. CAL. Big. Built with the features of an early Brown Bess with ball finial brass trigger guard, long tail serpentine brass sideplate and banana shaped lock plate with a small teat at the back. The bbl is iron, 15-5/8″ long, thick walled and flared at the muzzle to 1-7/8″. It has a single brass guide with a button head iron ramrod. The tang and surrounding raised panel, along with the long wrist and short comb are also reminiscent of a Brown Bess musket. The buttplate is brass with a short rounded tang. CONDITION: Fair to good. The bbl, lock plate and hammer are a cleaned gray-brown patina with moderate rust pitting. The brass is a medium mustard patina. The stock has bug holes and dry rot at the muzzle end missing several small splinters with several longitudinal cracks. The balance of the stock is sound with a fine hand-rubbed patina. 4-45429 JL246 (2,000-3,000)
