EARLY FLINTLOCK LONG FOWLER OR PUNT GUN. CAL. about 8 bore. Extra long smooth bore Fowler with 55-5/8″ stepped round bbl that is approx. 1-1/2″ dia. at the breech end. It is mounted in a hardwood half-stock with horn foreend tip having two iron guides and an iron nose pipe with a tulip head wooden ramrod. The lock is from an early Brown Bess marked “BARNETT/LONDON”. The furniture is iron with a small sheet metal trigger guard and thin smooth iron buttplate with long narrow tang. The sideplate is brass from an India pattern Brown Bess. CONDITION: Good. The bbl retains a dark brown patina with light surface pitting. The lock plate is a mottled silver-brown. The trigger guard and buttplate are brown patina with rust pitting. The stock is coarse grained and appears to have been exposed to moisture for a ling period of time. The lock does not fit very well into the stock and maybe a replacement. 4-45381 JL258 (1,000-2,000)
