EARLY FLINTLOCK MILITIA MUSKET OR OFFICERS FUSIL. CAL. about 75. Delicate Flintlock musket with 38-1/2″ bbl, iron mounted with three bbl bands, front sight that doubles as a bayonet lug with tulip head iron ramrod. The lock plate resembles a Charleyville with a vertical groove behind the hammer and the initials “SE” under a crown and other indistinguishable lettering. The trigger guard, sideplate and buttplate are smooth iron. The stock is very short measuring 12-3/4″ with a very narrow wrist and tiny butt with short comb and a notch at the front of the comb. Accompanied by what appears to be an orig. triangular socket bayonet with a 15″ blade. CONDITION: The iron retains a dark brown attic patina. The stock has a crack back of the top tang and is missing a chip at the front of the lock plate and some grain checks at the buttplate. Otherwise is sound with a fine dark hand-rubbed patina. 4-45455 JL259 (1,000-2,000)
