VERY EARLY BOWIE KNIFE. Unmarked with a 8-11/16″ clip point blade with offset S-shaped hand guard and spiral carved bone handle with German silver ferrule, missing the buttcap. The blade retains traces of foliate pattern etching on both sides and down the spine. It shows evidence of hard use. The accompanying sheath is of German silver and brown velvet covered leather. The tip and the throat are nicely engraved with foliate patterns and the throat has an acorn and oak leaf frog button. CONDITION: As previously stated, the blade shows hard use having probably been slightly tipped with only traces of pattern remaining. The bone handle has two or three small cracks and age lines. The sheath is stiff and dry, missing most of its velvet. The throat and tip are nicked and dinged but intact. 4-44721 JL105 (500-1,000)
