BRITISH NAVAL CUTLASS. Dating to the period 1790-1820, this British iron mounted Naval cutlass has a single edged flat straight blade measuring 28.75″. One face of the blade is deeply stamped with “GR” surmounted by a crown (the cypher of King George III). The hilt is fashioned of sheet iron in figure eight style with a cast iron ribbed grip painted black. No scabbard. The standard British naval cutlass of the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812. CONDITION: Good, Blade is lightly nicked and retains some sort of partial surface finish as though it was once plated. The hilt and grip are excellent retaining some orig. paint. 4-45420 CW (600-800)
