REVOLUTIONARY WAR CORNWALL REGIMENTALLY MARKED BRITISH INFANTRY HANGER. Standard pattern 1765 brass hilted Infantry officer’s hanger having a 24 1/2″ single edged blade with single unstopped fuller. Both faces of the blade are deeply stamped with the image of a running fox and the initials “SH” within. The hilt is of cast brass with heart shaped counter guard, and a 3-branch knuckle guard terminating in a globe-like pommel cap. The quillion has been broken off. The grip is of cast brass with spiraling grooves. The bottom of the counter guard is engraved “D/55″ and “ M CORNWALL.” These markings indicated ownership by a British regiment in Cornwall, England. CONDITION: Good, this sword shows heavy use. The blade is quite dark with areas of heavy pitting. The blade markings are clear. The hilt is loose, the quillion broken from the counter guard. The bottom surface of the counterguard has scratching to the surface area. Markings are legible. 4-45114 CW (2,500-3,500)
