LOT OF CIVIL WAR CAVALRY ACCOUTERMENTS IDENTIFIED TO A TROOPER IN THE 8TH NEW YORK CAVALRY. A nice small lot of difficult to find cavalry accouterments accompanied by some documentation to the 8TH NY Cavalry as follows: 1) Pr of Civil War enlisted man’s brass spurs and straps. A nice matched pair of plain cast brass spurs. An unmarked pair with iron rowels and their orig. leather straps and buckles. CONDITION: Very good, the spurs have a nice medium patina, the straps are heavily worn. 2) Pair of Civil War McClellan saddle bags. Brown leather saddle bags with cross-over strap. Each has a large outer flap with strap and buckle closure. Each flap is marked “Lacey, Meeker & Co./Bridgeport, CT” in an oval cartouche. The saddle bags are accompanied by the obituary of Murganzy Hopkins, a former member of the 8th New York Cavalry. CONDITION: Good, the bags are quite dry and flaking here and there. A little preservative treatment would do wonders. The identification needs research. 3) Pair of Civil War saddle holsters. A large pair of Civil War period revolver holsters with their orig. flaps. The bodies of each holster measures 13″ long with heavy brass caps and brass closure finials. The flaps (now separated but complete) are of fine Russian leather backed with a heavy cloth material. The Hopkins (8th NY Cav.) obituary accompanies this pair of rare holsters as well. CONDITION: Leather is dry and untouched. The outer flaps are separated from the holster bodies. Some minor seam separation and scuffing, and cracking to the leather. 4-45193, 45196, 45206 CW (2,500-3,000)
