COLLECTION OF U.S. CIVIL WAR INFANTRY ENLISTEDMAN’S ACCOUTERMENTS. A group of Civil War leather gear with bayonet and canteen as follows: 1) Civil War enlisted man’s waist belt and plate. Black bridle leather waist belt with brass keeper and oval lead filled, stamped brass “US” belt plate. CONDITION: Fair, leather is very dry and belt is broken in two places. Nice uncleaned belt plate. 2) 58 caliber cartridge box and plate. Standard U.S. Model 1855 musket box, unmarked. Black leather with excavated cartridge box plate affixed to front flap. CONDITION: Good, leather is dry and surface cracked but most seams are strong. Closing tab is split, cartridge tins are missing but belt straps are good. 3) Percussion cap pouch. Black leather pouch with illegible makers mark on inner flap. Two thin belt loops on reverse. CONDITION: Fair, leather is dry and crackled, interior wool and pick are missing. 4) Colt pistol cartridge box. Small black leather pouch for the .44 caliber Colt Army pistol cartridges. Single flap with two belt loops. CONDITION: Fair, leather is dry and flaked on the edges. 5) Civil War 58 caliber bayonet and scabbard. Standard 58 caliber bayonet marked “US” with dot over top and “F” below. Leather scabbard with brass tip and riveted belt loop. CONDITION: Very good. The bayonet has a light gray patina with no pitting. The scabbard is strong with light flexing. 6) Civil War tin “bull’s-eye” canteen. A nice example of the standard U.S. “bull’s-eye” type canteen. No cover, stopper or chain. Lead spout marked “Porter & Sons/Phila.”, three strap guides. It is accompanied by a short leather, buckled strap which may not be period. CONDITION: The cover, stopper and chain are missing. The body of the canteen has only a few minor dents.
