LOT OF AMERICAN MILITARY LEATHER, BINOCULARS, TELESCOPE AND KEPI. A mixed lot of the following U.S. Military items: 1) Civil War U.S. officer’s sword belt and plate. Bridle leather sword belt with Model 1851 eagle belt plate. The belt has two sword straps with brass clips, the belt plate is a cast brass Model 1851 eagle plate with narrow tongue. CONDITION: Fair, the leather is extremely dry and powdery with red rot. Some preservative treatment will help this belt a great deal. Leather is flexible but in need of a lot of attention. The belt plate is dark and uncleaned. 2) U.S. Indian War period Palmer brace system. Patented backpack brace system adopted by the U.S. Government in 1879. Leather shoulder pad and straps. CONDITION: Very good, leather is lightly flaked, and a bit dry. The brace is strong and flexible, however. 3) U.S. Indian War saber hanger. 1872 sword hanger with brass belt hook and two sword straps. CONDITION: Very good, leather is a bit dry and slightly crackled but still strong. 4) Civil War period brass telescope measures 6 3/4″ closed and 18 1/2″ fully extended. Outer bbl is covered in leather. The type widely used by officers during the Civil War. CONDITION: Excellent, leather covering is about mint, brass is a bit tarnished, optics are excellent. 5) Civil War period binoculars. A very nice pair of early binoculars, unmarked with brass frame and barrels. Sun shades and extending eye pieces are painted black, body is brass. CONDITION: Excellent, uncleaned with medium patina overall. They operate well and optics are excellent. 6) Union kepi. An extremely well made reproduction kepi probably from the early 1970’s. Its construction is authentic in every detail except the use of Indian war period chin strap buttons. On the crown is a felt corps badge, authentic artillery insignia and the number “8.” This kepi could easily fool the most experienced collector. The sweat band, buttons and a few other minor details are giveaways! 4-45209, 45195, 45205, 45192, 45252 CW (600-800)
