LOT OF CIVIL WAR OFFICER’S EMBROIDERED SHOULDER STRAP INSIGNIA. The lot consists of three pair and one single as follows: 1) Triple deluxe pair of 2nd Lieutenant of Staff shoulder straps. This pair has triple bordered edges and measure 2 1/8″ X 5.” Black velvet center. Open backs with sewn edges and paper backing. CONDITION: Excellent, gold embroidery is dull, velvet centers are dark and unfaded. Some minor loss to paper backing. 2) Double rich pair of 2ND Lieutenant of Cavalry should straps. This pair has double embroidered borders and measures 1 1/2″ X 4 3/4.” The centers are yellow velvet with sewn backs and coarse woven linen backing. CONDITION: Fine, the embroidery is tight, a few loose stitches here and there, the velvet centers retain a dull yellow color. 3) Standard deluxe Major of Staff shoulder straps made by Horstmann Bros. & Co. Philadelphia. A nice pair with single embroidered edges, black velvet centers and gilt oak leaf rank insignia. These have leather backs with gold embossing showing a standing liberty figure with the Horstmann company name above and below. The leather backs have integral brass folding attachment pins. A very rare marked pair. CONDITION: Good, one strap shows mothing in three places, the other is fine. All embroidery is dark. The leather backs and attachment pins are fine. 4) Single (one strap only) standard strap for Captain of Infantry. Single border embroidery on light blue wool centers with two captain’s bars at each end. The back is sewn with a tarred canvas insert. CONDITION: Shows wear with a couple of small breaks in border. 4-45215; 45221 CW (1,500-2,500)
