LOT OF TWO EARLY MILITARY DRESS HATS. 1) EUROPEAN MILITARY DRESS CHAPEAU. A beaver skin dress military chapeau circa 1860-90 standing 6 1/2 ” tall with a beaver felt body and 2 1/4″ wide band of silk ribbon on the edges. Each tip bears a large rosette of concentric gilt wire circles with a double headed eagle seal in the center. The front has a double wide gilt braid band secured with a two piece military button bearing the symbol of a crested double headed eagle. The interior is lined in white silk with a makers mark now illegible and a 2 1/4″ wide sweat band. CONDITION: Fair, the hat shows much use and uncleaned dust from years of storage. Edges are tattered but the chapeau is strong without breaks or fractures. 2) LATE PERIOD ENGLISH TRI-CORN HAT. A beaver skin traditional tri-corn hat dating to the period 1900-1930. Typical and traditional fine British made ceremonial tri-corn of beaver felt with a 1 1/2 ” wide gilt cloth ribbon trim to all outside edges. The back turned brim has a double ribbon band running vertically and terminating in a gilt cloth covered button. The interior is lined in fancy creme colored silk with a gathered crown and quilted sweatband. Maker marked “Tress & Co., London”. CONDITION: Very good with wear to beaver felt, light staining to interior lining. The threads securing the two front flaps to the crown are broken. 4-45412; 45414 CW (850-1,000)
