AMERICAN INDIAN WAR PERIOD GREAT COAT. Dating to the period 1880-90, a privately made caped overcoat non-regulation made for a state national guard. Dbl-breasted, 6-button down each side. The cape has 8 cuff sized buttons. One button on each sleeve and 2 at the rear waist. Dark blue wool. The lining of the cape is white cotton twill. The exterior of the cape is faded lightly. The interior lining is black shiny satin twill. Fully lined to the bottom of the skirts. There is an embroidered tag sewn above the left pocket reading “DeMoulin Bros. & Co. Greenville Ill.” The sleeve lining is the same as the interior body. A hanging chain is present in the back of the collar above a sewn in square tag embroidered “28.” A cotton printed size tag is inside the interior pocket marked with the manufacturer’s name and “Chest 36″. There are two brass hook & eye closures at the neck. Buttons are back marked. “Waterbury Button Co. Conn.” CONDITION: Light wear overall, some fading, particularly to the cape.
