FINE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR FIELD GRADE OFFICER’S FROCK COAT. A tailor made field grade officer’s uniform, finely tailored by Hatfield & Sons, New York for a Civil War officer ranked Major to Colonel. Manufactured of fine black wool broadcloth with a double breasted front having two rows of 7- buttons down the breast and three cuff sized buttons on each of the functional cuffs. Each of the matched buttons are back-marked “Shannon, Miller & Crane, New York.” Each shoulder is fitted with cloth covered hardware for dress epaulets. No evidence of shoulder strap insignia exists. The interior is lined with dark green polished cotton, heavily quilted at the breast. Each sleeve is lined with fine off-white colored silk. The bottom edge of the tails are un-hemmed and there are two pockets in the tails, and one in each breast. A marvelous example of a tailor made officer’s uniform frock coat from the Civil War period. CONDITION: Excellent. Virtually no mothing exists, just some light fading and staining at seams and edges from light use and storage. The interior finishes are magnificent. 4-45400 CW (6,000-8,000)
