RARE U.S. MODEL 1842 PALMETTO (SOUTH CAROLINA) PERCUSSION SINGLE SHOT PISTOL. A rare and desirable South Carolina militia contract pistol patterned after the U.S. Model 1842 percussion pistol. CAL. 54 smoothbore single shot pistol with brass furniture on a walnut stock with swivel type ramrod. The lock is marked ahead of hammer “Palmetto Armory. S*C” in a circle surrounding a palmetto tree. Behind the hammer is marked “Columbia/SC 1852.” The breech of the bbl is marked “Wm. Glaze & Co.” on the left flat with “V” “P” and small palmetto tree proofs on top on barrel. A pre-Civil War single shot handgun sought after by Confederate collectors. Only 1,000 were orig.ly produced. CONDITION: Very good, no orig. finish, metal parts are uncleaned with an attractive dark patina. All markings are authentic and sharp. The stock is fractured forward of the lock and there are numerous minor losses around the lock-plate mortise. A very nice untouched example. 4-45416 CW (4,500-6,500)
