FINE LANCASTER STYLE FULL STOCK CONVERSION KENTUCKY RIFLE. CAL. 44. Very well made, fine stocked rifle with 40-1/8″ oct. bbl, German silver front sight with fixed rear sight. There is light engraved decorations before and after each of the sights on the top flat. The stock is nicely figured walnut with eight German silver inlays on the forestock and eleven more on the buttstock. The 4-pc engraved brass patch box has deep engraving of flowers in stylized patterns, typical of the eastern Pennsylvania region. There is a name on the top flat that is indecipherable. This, however, is a high quality Kentucky with curved set rear trigger and peg front trigger. Filigree engraved brass sideplate and a delicate brass trigger guard. The buttplate is also brass with a faceted top tang and engraved toe plate. The nose cap, ramrod guide and nose pipe are also brass and contain a replacement Hickory ramrod. The conversion was done using a round bolster and the hammer is lightly engraved in the same style as the lock plate. CONDITION: The metal retains a very dark brown patina with heavy pitting and burnout around the nipple area on the bbl and lock plate. The wood is sound with overall dark patina having a hairline back of the lock with oil staining. The patch box lid has a small dent. Sound mechanics. A fine early Kentucky that a little research may prove to be one of the better makers. 4-45388 JL241 (1,500-3,000)
