BRITISH MILITARY FLINTLOCK CARBINE BY “WILSON”. A very nice example of a 1760-1780 period English contract carbine made and signed by the famous gunmaker “Wilson.” Approximately CAL. 60. 28″ round bbl with Birmingham proofs at breech and no bayonet stud. All brass furniture in typical English carbine style, three ramrod tubes, iron button head ramrod. Buttplate tang is engraved “CREMORNE”. Lockplate is engraved “WILSON” with no date or other markings. No English government markings indicating that this carbine was made for India trade or export. Probably purchased by a private Malitia Unit. Top of bbl with early proof and butt tang with period inscription “CREMORRE”, probably the name of the commander of the Malitia Unit. CONDITION: Very good, all metal surfaces are uncleaned with a pleasing dark patina, light pitting at breech. Original flint, cock has an obvious repair at the neck. Stock shows wear but is without fracture and retains a nice color. 4-45419 CW (2,400-2,600)
