J.H. RECTOR PERCUSSION HALF-STOCK KENTUCKY. CAL. 38. Fine half-stock rifle with 31″ oct. bbl with half round, dovetailed front sight base with small brass blade and fixed rear sight. The top flat is marked “J.H. RECTOR SYRACUSE NY” with the number 1768. The bbl has a metal ramrod rail with two iron guides and a brass nose pipe. The stock is straight grain walnut with a pewter nose cap, a simple engraved brass trigger guard, engraved 2-pc patch box with a German silver bird dog on point on the left side of the stock with a crescent buttplate. The wrist has medium coarse checkering. The lock plate and upper tang are lightly engraved and match the other pieces of the rifle. CONDITION: The bbl, lock plate and hammer appear to be polished bright under a coating of old dried oil and smoke. The wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish.
