LEMAN HALF-STOCK HUNTING RIFLE. CAL. About 42. Wonderful old half stock by a fine Lancaster County maker with 29-3/8″ oct. bbl with brass blade, dbl dove tail front sight and a fixed rear sight. The bottom of the bbl has a metal rail with two brass guides attached for the ramrod with a brass nose pipe. The sides of this rail are lightly engraved with wavy patterns. The stock is nicely figured, tiger striped walnut with ten German silver inlays and a German silver saddle guard. The crescent buttplate is brass with a faceted tang and it has a 8-3/4″ German silver toe plate lightly engraved with leaf patterns. Most of the inlays are also lightly engraved. Additionally, there is a large engraved silver sideplate secured with two small screws and the large lock plate screw. The stock also has a number of early brass tacks securing the sharp points of most of the inlays, apparently applied post market. Lock plate and hammer are lightly engraved and marked “LEMAN/LANCTR.PA”. CONDITION: Good plus, the bbl. has been cleaned bright a long time ago and is now a thin, silver gray patina. The stock has a crack at the tip and through the lock plate area, otherwise is sound with a dark oil, hand-rubbed patina. There is a 3/4″ repair in the toe. 4-45463 JL291 (2,500-4,000)
