BEDFORD COUNTY STYLE HALF-STOCK CONVERSION KENTUCKY RIFLE. CAL. about 34. Unmarked early Kentucky with 30-13/16″ oct. bbl, long brass front sight with fixed rear sight. The lock plate is lightly decorated as is the hammer, which has the tall spur reminiscent of Bedford County rifles. The conversion was done using a simple tumbler. The stock has brass furniture with seven brass inlays. One, of a decorated fish below the cheek piece. There is an elliptical inlay on the cheek piece with a crudely scratched name “FRANK WRIGHT/1873”. The right side of the stock has an elaborate filigree, engraved, 4-pc patch box and there is a matching brass inlay around the top tang and down the wrist. There is an inlay down the comb and toe plate, which have diamond and round cut outs and rectangular bone inlays. The bottom of the forestock has a long saddle guard. The sideplate is long and rectangular with nice engraving. CONDITION: The bbl retains a very dark brown patina with moderate to heavy pitting around the nipple and on the lock plate. The brass has a medium mustard patina. The stock appears to be sound with an old repair on the right side of the forestock and retains most of an old refinish. 4-45712 JL354 (1,500-2,500)
