*REVIVAL OF AN OLD CONCEPT, METICULOUSLY CRAFTED 28 GAUGE ABBIATICO & SALVINELLI QUATTROCANNONE WITH SCROLL BY BRUNO GOLDANI, AND FINE BULINO WORK BY ANGELO GALEAZZI, WITH CASE AND ACCESSORIES.

SN 399. Cal. 28 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. Four bbl cluster, with slightly swamped game rib with dolls head extension, is engraved “Abbiatico & Salvinelli” on top of upper left bbl. Bbl flats are stamped with 1981 Italian nitro proofs and with first names of craftsmen involved in building this fine, intricate gun, including Dante, Poli, Mario, Remo, Tony, and Gian. Coin finished sidelock/ boxlock action with non-automatic safety and single non-selective trigger (firing all four bbls), is fitted with hammer sidelocks. Tall serpentine hammers are nicely filed. Tall four bbl fences are also intricately sculpted with tops of fences in oval pattern. This interesting mechanism fires all four bbls in succession when hammers are cocked, with upper right first, upper left second, lower right third, and lower left fourth. If the hammers are not cocked, the action acts as a normal side by side boxlock, firing right then left bottom bbls. Action is engraved with areas of well cut scroll surrounding nicely detailed Bulino game scenes on sides and bottom; a pointer points a trio of grouse flushing from hillside on left lock, and another pointer points a trio of Hungarian partridge on right. Bottom of action shows a pair of red grouse taking wing from heather with open moorland in background. Scroll is by Bruno Goldani, whose signature appears on trigger plate, and the fine Bulino work is by Angelo Galeazzi whose signature is at the bottom of each scene. Scroll engraved trigger guard has gold armorial shield on bow, and SN on tang. Top tang of action is gold inlaid “7/15″ indicating that this is the 7th gun of a run of 15 made. Nicely marbled and figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14” over thin black Old English pad, and features drop points, as well as point pattern checkering on diamond hand. Gold monogram “G G” is inlet into toe line. Matching splinter forend with Anson release has “A & S” gold crest inlet on blank central diamond. Bore diameter: top left -.554, top right – .554. Bore restrictions: top left – .009 (IC), top right – .002 (skeet). Bore diameter: bottom left -.555, bottom right – .554. Bore restrictions: bottom left – .008 (IC), bottom right – .012 (mod). Drop at heel: 2-3/16″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Cast: approx 1/8 off. Weight: 8 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14″. High quality brown leather case by Nizzoli with stitched leather corners, is lined in red velvet and has leather A & S label stitched into top. Bottom is semi-French fitted for this gun and contains two pair of A – Zoom snap caps, A&S marked oil bottle, empty striker bottle, and cleaning equipment. Three turnscrews with ebonized handles are in covered compartment, along with a key. CONDITION: Excellent, appears very close to new, with scant evidence of having been shot. There are some light handling and assembly marks in wood and metal surfaces. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Mechanically excellent. Case is excellent with some scuffs. Interior has rubs and light soiling. Accessories are excellent. This really neat gun handles quite well. With hammers cocked, four consecutive shots will certainly reduce the number of quail in any covey. 52834-1 MGM (40,000-60,000) – Lot 1239
