INDIA PATTERN BROWN BESS FLINTLOCK MUSKET. CAL. about 75. Usual configuration with 39-3/16″ bbl, bayonet lug front sight, brass mounted with two ramrod guides and nose pipe containing a button head ramrod. The trigger guard has an acorn finial with brass sideplate and 2-step long buttplate tang. The top tang is wedge shaped with a raised oval surrounding and teardrop side panels on each side. The right side of the buttstock near the buttplate has the broad arrow proof with the date 1808. The left flat has proof marks as does the breech end of the bbl. The lock is marked “TOWER” with a crown over “GR”. CONDITION: Very good. There is a period of use, splice in the stock at the back of the top tang, a small crack in front of the lock plate, another behind the lock plate with a small chip missing. Otherwise the wood is sound with a fine hand-rubbed patina, lighter in the middle. The metal retains a dark brown patina with scattered light surface rust with light pitting around the flash hole.
