HARPER’S FERRY MODEL 1803 RIFLE. CAL. .54. 2nd production with desirable “Type 1” short bbl configuration. 33-1/8” part oct. bbl. Although the lock is dated 1815 and the eagle has the late “US” in shield over the eagle. Provenance de-accessioned from the Princeton University Museum via Dr. Donald Baird, former curator, donated by Col. Wm. Libbey, Class of 1877 Marksman and 15th President of National Rifle Assoc. CONDITION: The metal has been cleaned and polished sometime in the past, the brass is now toning, with the iron having scattered surface rust and pitting. The ramrod is possibly a replacement and a crack in the stock-flat. The bore is dark but has strong rifling, action is fine. 4-44787 X5 (6,000-9,000)
