U.S. MODEL 1803 U.S. FLINTLOCK RIFLE CONVERTED TO PERCUSSION. Dated 1814, when production resumed from the earliest production for the War of 1812. Later type 36″ bbl, .CAL. 54, half stock percussion military rifle manufactured at the Harpers Ferry Arsenal. Walnut half stock with brass furniture and 2-pc brass patch box. Lock plate is stamped “Harpers/ Ferry/1814″ with early rear Type I teat on tail of the lock. The left bbl flat has several stampings which are worth some additional research and may identify an owner as follows: “CONd”, “G. HAY” along with an anadditional mark appearing to be 1st B 4th D. Civilian type drum and nipple conversion to percussion. CONDITION: Very good. All metal surfaces are dark and uncleaned with medium to heavy pitting near breech of bbl. Markings are generally clear. Brass furniture is uncleaned and retains a pleasing medium patina. Stock is fine and with cartouche. 4-45418 CW (1,800-2,200)
